BALTIMORE — A man is facing life in prison plus an additional 35 years for the killing of a man outside of a bar in Baltimore.
About a year ago on July 8, 2018, police were called to investigate a shooting at a bar located at 400 North Haven Street around 2 a.m. Officials say officers found the victim, identified as Emmanuel Cruz, in a parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. Cruz was later taken to a local hospital where he died.
Baltimore Police detectives investigated the incident and learned that Cruz and the suspect, Jaquan Burks, got into a fight outside the bar. Witnesses told police that Burks pulled out his gun and shot and killed Cruz.
Burks was convicted of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence and possession of a firearm. His sentencing is scheduled for August 26, 2019, where he faces life plus 35 years for the murder of Cruz.
