BALTIMORE — A Baltimore man was sentenced to 30 years for assault and manslaughter.

The Baltimore City State’s Attorney office said 27-year-old Rodney Harris will serve 10 years for manslaughter of his unborn son and 25 years for first degree assault of his girlfriend.

In April 2018, Baltimore Police were called to the 200 block of N. Dallas Court in East Baltimore for an assault. When they arrived, officers were not able to find anyone at the home, but they were able to reach Harris by phone.

According to the police report, he was on the way to the hospital with his girlfriend, who was 26 weeks pregnant at the time.

Police went to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where the couple went and learned that the victim was severely beaten. Harris had noticeable cuts on his knuckles.

Police said his girlfriend had a broken jaw, a swollen right eye, lacerations to her lips and bruises and cuts on her legs.

She told officers that Harris beat her multiple times with his fist and kicked and punched her in the stomach for a period of twelve hours after an argument.

After the assault, the unborn child was delivered still born and a medical examiner said the death was the result of a violent assault to the victim and her stomach.
