M&T Bank officially opened its new regional headquarters in downtown Baltimore, an even that drew state and city officials and more than 700 regional and business community leaders, the Downtown Partnership announced Friday.
The Buffalo, N.Y.-based bank chose One Light Street as its new Mid-Atlantic headquarters. The building will house 600 bank employees in 155,000 square-feet spread over six floors of the building. The bank's initial agreement for the space is a 15-year lease, with two five-year renewal options.
“We are committing our future to the Baltimore region because we think it is a great place to live and work and a great place to do business,” said Augie Chiasera, President of M&T Bank’s Greater Baltimore and Chesapeake region. “The future looks bright for Baltimore, and we are a part of that future both as an employer and as an involved corporate citizen.”
To showcase the new space, The Downtown Partnership hosted its Annual Meeting in the 28-story building, the newest high rise building in Downtown's Charles Center neighborhood.
“Our annual meeting celebrates Downtown Baltimore milestones and we wanted the opening of One Light with M&T Bank as the lead tenant to be the headline for our event,” said Kirby Fowler, President of Downtown Partnership of Baltimore. “This property exemplifies the economic turn-around we’re seeing in Charles Center.”
