BALTIMORE — While you're driving through the Baltimore area you may see a new billboard that says, “Buy a gun for someone who can’t and buy yourself 10 years in jail. Don’t Lie for the Other Guy.”

This billboard is part of new campaign to bring awareness to illegal gun purchases in Baltimore City. ATF Baltimore alongside the National Shooting Sports Foundation launched the initiative to remind the citizens of Baltimore about the consequences in place for people convicted of unlawful purchases.

“As evidenced today, the firearms industry is proud of its longstanding cooperative relationship with the ATF and the entire law enforcement community by assisting them in their efforts to combat the criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms,” said NSSF Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel.

The campaign is expected to last one month and is accompanied with a short program at the FreeState Gun Range in Middle River.

The "Don't Lie" program started over 10 years ago and is fully funded by the firearms industry. The program also helps ATF educate firearms retailers to be better prepared to deter potential straw purchases.
