BALTIMORE — The Director of the Maryland Office of Emergency Management, David McMillan, is on leave.

There is no word, yet, on why McMillan was asked to vacate his position.

However, Chief Charles Svehla, the Assistant Chief of Operations with the Baltimore City Fire Department, will serve as acting Emergency Manager for the City. In his position, Svehla is responsible for creating and implementing operational procedures.

He serves as a Director for the fire department's Incident Management Team and was the Deputy Chief for developing Incident Action Plans for special events and incidents.

He will be joined by Chief James Wallace and Captain Scott Brillman, who will handle the day-to-day operations of the Office.
