Marshalls leaves Mondawmin Mall Saturday, January 12. The space will be filled by a gym.
Planet Fitness signed a lease for the location at the mall. This will be the fifth Planet Fitness location in Baltimore City.
In addition to cardio and strength equipment, this location will offer HydroMassage beds and massage chairs.
Construction is expected to begin soon. The location should be open by the summer.
Mayor Catherine Pugh released a statement on the change at Mondawmin Mall:
Planet Fitness will be a great addition to Mondawmin Mall, and we are thrilled that this team continues to invest in Baltimore and open in neighborhoods which are in need of such amenities and services. In addition to providing a welcoming environment for people to improve their health and fitness, Planet Fitness will create jobs and give back to the community as they have in other neighborhoods.
Marshalls opened at the mall in 2011. It's the second major retailer to leave the mall. In February of 2018, Target left the mall after nine years in business at that location.
