BALTIMORE — BPD Academy Class 19-01 graduated on Friday, welcoming the new generation of Baltimore Police officers.

WMAR-2 News' Eddie Kadhim spoke with some of the officers graduating before they walked across the big stage. They spoke about their excitement to strengthen relationships between police and the community.

Commissioner Michael Harrison addressed the graduates with words of hope.

“Today represents the hope that a few of us are still willing to protect the innocent from those that want to do harm," Commissioner Harrison said. "That good still prevails over evil.”

A large showing from the Jewish community was also in attendance for new officer Kaplan Finklestein who said he's the first Orthodox Jewish officer in the department since at least the 60s.
