Baltimore seniors are giving back with their own version of fidget spinners with fidget quilts.
Fidget quilts help those struggling with conditions like Dementia or Alzheimer. Quilters at Keswick Multi-Care Center come together every week to make the fidget quilts for seniors at the center.
“I think it gives us all a good feeling to also share what we’re doing with others,” said Lee Layman, a quilter at Keswick Multi-Care Center.
The difference in material keeps the seniors busy and helps to keep their minds occupied. Feeling the quilts gives them something to soothe their nerves.
“This is one of the ways that they can make a real difference,” said President and CEO of Keswick, Carmel Roques. “It’s incredibly gratifying to see that older adults can both be receivers of the gifts and support of others but also the givers of support for others."
Every quick is unique in its own way. It's the perfect example of seniors helping seniors. And all of th esupport they've been giving has received a lot of support in return.
"We've gotten notes back and letters," Layman said. "I think it's made all of us feel good and we feel like we're accomplishing something and helping others."
The quilters have no plans on stopping anytime soon. They say they're always looking for other people in need to make more quilts for.
