BALTIMORE — State delegates and Italian American activists want Governor Larry Hogan and Baltimore City Mayor Jack Young to protect Baltimore's Columbus statues and monuments.

Today delegates Nino Mangione and Kathy Szeliga joined activists at Columbus piazza on the corner of President Street and Eastern Avenue for a news conference.

They want the Governor and Mayor to preserve and protect the statues and monuments and the contributions of generations of Italian Americans.

They say while we can't rewrite history and he wasn't perfect, he changed the course of history of our world and he should be celebrated.

"No man is perfect, no government is perfect, but we are to celebrate men and women and all if we're looking for perfection. I'm sorry Jesus was the only perfect man that lived so we are not going to find perfection."

Delegate Mangione says these priceless statues need 24 hour guard until the crisis has passed.
