Two people mauled by dog in Brooklyn, police shoot dog

BALTIMORE — Police shot a pit bull who mauled two people in Brooklyn Tuesday morning, Baltimore Police said.

Police said the incident happened at around 11 a.m. in the 600 block of Maude Avenue. The two people were seriously injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. Officers from the Southern District responded and shot the dog.

Police provided further details Tuesday afternoon, saying when officers came upon the dog, it was attacking a 60-year-old man. One officer shot the dog with his service weapon, killing the dog.

Further investigation revealed the dog attacked a 43-year-old woman inside of her home in the 600 block of Maude Avenue. her 60-year-old neighbor heard the attack and ran to try to help. At that point the dog stopped attacking the woman and attacked the man.

Both victims were taken to an area hospital for treatment of serious but not life-threatening injuries.
