BALTIMORE — The VA Maryland Health Care System celebrated a group of new moms on Monday.
The system put together a baby shower and brunch for female veterans to celebrate Mother's Day and welcome their new bundles of joy.
About 40 families attended the shower and brunch. There was food, games, and plenty of gifts.
Janice Chance, a volunteer who lost her son in 2008 in Afghanistan volunteers at the VA Medical Center. She has bonded with Chasey Romani, an expectant mom who carried her son’s casket 11 years ago.
"She gave to me on that day, helped to carry my hero to his final resting place,” said Chance. “Now today, I get a chance to serve her and her expecting baby."
Romani is still serving in the reserves; she is due on June 7.
Monday’s shower was the system's third baby shower for expecting and new moms.
