BALTIMORE — Monday night a hearing was held for a bill to make water services more affordable.

The bill called the Water Accountability and Equity Act passed its second reading. If signed into law it would create a water for all discount program, an office of water customer advocacy, and appeals and a committee for office oversight.

Fatimah Steffanoff-Statom says she struggled under the current billing system and hopes the plan is a step in the right direction.

"As far as what I have read from it, it starts the right path," she said.

The bill was introduced nearly a year ago. Now, city council will vote on the bill at their next meeting.
