Posted

One person was injured in a boat fire in Sparrows Point Friday.

According to police, two people were boating in the Patapsco River when their boat caught fire. Baltimore County firefighters say the boaters were able to get on another boat and come to shore.

Around 9:40 a.m. firefighters arrived to find the 40-foot boat engulfed in flames.

"The win had actually started to blow it over the pier," said Baltimore County fire official Lt. Tim Rostkowski. "Units attacked the fire from the shore. After the fire was extinguished, the vessel actually ended up sinking."

One of the boaters was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. He is expected to recover.

Firefighters say it could be weeks before the cause of the fire is determined. A private contractor will be called to remove the boat.
