The 136th Annual Maryland State Fair kicked off Friday, with a little something for everyone.
The sweetest day of the fair, August 25th, is National Banana Split Day! To celebrate, the Dairy Bar is creating a 350 pound banana split sundae, with 136 gallons of ice cream and 136 bananas to commemorate the fair's 136th year.
It starts at 2 p.m. and once the creation is complete, everyone at the fair can eat free samples of the ice cream, until it melts or they run out. The ice cream was made from dairy cows right here in Maryland.
The Dairy Bar will offer ice cream from a variety of vendors throughout the 12 days fo the fair. Depending on the day, you can get Hershey's ice cream, or ice cream made from local dairy cows.
The fair's rides and attractions open at noon, the rest of the fair, including the animal shows and birthing center will start at 8 a.m.
Farming experts at the Birthing Center say the Cow Palace is so important to teach children about the circle of life and what farmers have to do on a daily basis. The fair runs through Labor Day.
