ROSEDALE, Md. — Baltimore County Police are investigating the shooting of a 4 year old inside of a home in Rosedale Tuesday afternoon.

Baltimore County Police Spokesperson Officer Jen Peach said it happened inside the home, but they are still investigating how.

Peach said the child was shot once in the lower body in the unit block of Cartwright Court.

The father and grandfather of the child were inside when the shooting happened.

“There’s conflicting information about how this shooting may have occurred," Peach said. "Whether or not it was a gun that was in the home or if it was somebody that came into the home”’

Mike Hartsburg, who lives across the street said he has seen the family in passing and they always seemed friendly.

“I would see the little boy coming out," Hartsburg said. "I believe he had siblings, I would see them often we had the basketball hoop at the top of our street. They’d all go out and play on the basketball hoop or whatever.”

As detectives continue to investigate what happened, Peach is imploring parents to keep their guns in a safe place.

“It’s extremely important for all gun owners to make sure that those guns are secured away from the reach of children," Peach said. "It’s better to use multiple ways of securing that gun, either a trigger lock or a lock box and than placing the gun in a safe.”

The boy is expected to survive, and it is too early in the investigation to know if any adults will be charged.
