Five former Mars Supermarket locations in Baltimore County reopened Thursday as Weis Markets.
Two of the stores are located in Dundalk, the others are in Essex, Arbutus and Carney. The company said it hired more than 500 new associates who used to work for Mars.

"We have converted and reopened our stores in record time to reduce to the inconvenience to the communities we serve," Kurt Schertle, Weis Markets' Chief Operating Officer, said in a release. "We look forward to sharing our commitment of value, quality and customer service with residents in the area, and are extremely pleased to welcome more than 500 new Weis associates to our team."
Weis is planning to finalize the purchase of 38 Food Lion stores in September, six of those are in the Baltimore region. When those six locations reopen, it will make a total of 15 Weis stores in the area, “essentially tripling its presence in the community within a few months' time,” according to the release.
