After a 15-year hiatus, women's basketball is coming back to a local community college.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Community College of Baltimore County Essex announced varsity women's basketball will be returning next fall.
The school is currently interviewing coaching candidates, with a decision expected sometime after the New Year.
In a statement, Athletic Administrator Greg Witkop said "We feel that we have a strong support system in place, which will allow us to quickly develop a strong program."
Throughout their history, the Knights' Women's teams have won multiple championships including the Maryland Juco Conference Tournament during the 1976-1977 and 1981-1982 seasons. The team was also crowned NJCAA Region XX and Division Champions in 1977-1978.
