BALTIMORE COUNTY — Baltimore County made history on Monday as Joanne Rund was sworn in as the fire department's first female fire chief.
Rund previously served 32 years with Howard County Fire and Rescue, where she held leadership positions in operations, administrative service, education and training.
Rund is the first female chief since the department's founding in the late 1880s. She is part of an all-female public safety leadership team in the county that includes Melissa Hyatt, the county's first female police chief.
