WINDSOR MILL, Md. — Baltimore County Police are investigating a shooting that left a 22-month-old child injured Sunday in Windsor Mill.

At 7:01 p.m. officers responded to 3500 block of Derby Shire Circle for a shooting.

When they arrived, police found a child inside of the home with a graze wound they believe was caused by gunfire.

The child was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Police state the incident appears to have stemmed from a domestic incident between the child’s mother and ex-boyfriend during which he assaulted the woman.

Another resident of the home, an adult man, tried to intervene and stop the assault at which time the suspect pulled out a handgun.

A struggle for the gun ensued, during which the male victim was hit with the gun causing an injury to his upper body.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the gun discharged during the struggle, causing a graze wound to the child.

The suspect left the gun at the scene and fled the home but was apprehended by responding officers after a brief foot pursuit.

The suspect’s identity will be released later today following formal charges.
