For one night, a group of citizens without badges will walk the streets of Towson for the eve of Halloween, also known as "Mischief Night."

Mischief night acts as an informal holiday for tricksters. Kids go out and vandalize property by throwing eggs or wrapping toilet paper around trees and porches.

A group of volunteers with the Towson Area Citizens On Patrol will be out Tuesday night, trying to prevent pranksters and troublemakers. The crew will patrol downtown Towson near the mall, shops by the traffic circle, and the neighborhoods surrounding the downtown area.

The Towson patrol group has been doing this for the last 18 years. Organizers say they believe their efforts do deter kids from causing problems and give homeowners peace of mind that their property won't be vandalized.
