MDOT SHA will begin the rehabilitation project on Bel Air Road bridge over Gunpowder Falls and the State Park Trail in Baltimore County.

Starting in the summer of 2019, crews will execute the $3.6 million project to make repairs to reinforce and preserve the service life of these structures.

Although the US 1 and the trail tunnel are safe to drive on, they plan on placing a smaller metal pipe inside the existing pipe inside the trail tunnel, and filling the gap between the new and existing pipes with grout.

The current infrastructure is a corrugated metal pipe arch bridge. The arched trail tunnel underneath US 1 north of the Gunpowder Falls is a metal pipe arch underpass.

Officials say the access to the trails in Gunpowder Falls State Park will be closed during the process.
