Expected road closures for Annual Lighting of the Washington Monument

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation is advising commuters of several temporary road closures on Thursday because of the city's annual lighting of the Washington Monument.

The event will be held on Thursday, December 6 and festivities in historic Mount Vernon will begin at 5 p.m. 

In the following streets will be closed with detours and parking restrictions in effect:

  • MT. Vernon Place – N. Charles Street to Cathedral Street – (Will be closed on Wednesday, December 5 at 6 p.m. for setup and will remain until Thursday, December 6 at 11:59 p.m.)
  • Washington Place (N. Charles Street) – Centre Street to Madison Street – 8 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.
  • MT. Vernon Place – N. Charles Street to ST. Paul Street – 8 a.m. to 11:59 p.m
  • Centre Street – Cathedral Street to N. Calvert Street – 8 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

 Drivers in the area are encouraged to use alternate routes and to watch for pedestrians attending the event.
