A man will spend 3 years in prison for intentionally killing a dog.
Anthony Muniz was convicted of aggravated animal cruelty by a Carroll County jury after a 2 day trial. The judge imposed the maximum sentence of 3 years in prison.
On February 28, 2017 a black and white put bull mix was found tied to a cinderblock in the Liberty Reservoir. A microchip in the dog led police to Muniz.
Police determined Muniz intentionally killed the dog to send a hurtful message to his then girlfriend.
“My office will aggressively prosecute the abuse or mistreatment of animals. Often people who mistreat and abuse animals pose a much greater risk to the public and are more likely to commit other crimes. I hope this conviction and sentence sends a warning to anyone who would engage in such conduct in the future”, said State’s Attorney Brian DeLeonardo in a statement.
