Baltimore County's first female police chief begins her new role Monday.
Melissa Hyatt takes over for Chief Terrence Sheridan who is retiring.
Baltimore County Executive John Olszewski nominated Hyatt in May. She was unanimously voted to the new post in earlier in June.
Hyatt served with the Baltimore City Police Department for more than 20 years before taking over as vice president for security at Johns Hopkins University.
She will be sworn in at Patriot Plaza.
Olszewski scheduled three public safety town halls where community members can meet and discuss issues with Hyatt.
The first of those meetings is Wednesday at the Randallstown Community Center at 3505 Resource Drive. The meetings are expected to run from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
