BALTIMORE — One of the Ravens best players has been living with a disorder that million Americans deal with every day.
Earlier this season, Tight End Mark Andrews revealed that he has type 1 diabetes.
WMAR-2 News spoke with Dr. Hira Shakeel from GBMC who works with diabetic patients.
More than 30 million Americans are impacted by type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
She said it’s all about managing your insulin level and the food that you eat, which can be especially difficult this time of year.
Andrews monitors his insulin level constantly, even checking it dozens of times during practices and games.
"He wants to make sure that his sugars are not dropping too fast. So, he's checking his sugars rapidly. So, I think you can manage your diabetes, but you need to know what are the things and steps I need to do, and you've just got to do it" said Dr. Hira Shakeel
