Towson graduation ceremony interrupted by hazmat situation

TOWSON, Md. — Baltimore County Fire crews along with the Hazardous Team were dispatched to SECU Arena in Towson for an unknown substance call made just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to Towson University officials, during a commencement ceremony at the arena, a graduating student released an unknown substance in celebration while walking across the stage. They say the student was questioned by the Towson University Police Department and the ceremony continued.

Baltimore County Hazmat crews were then called to the scene to investigate the incident for safety.

A spokesperson with Towson University told WMAR-2 there was no evacuation or lockdown that took place following the incident.

No injuries were reported and crews determined that no health hazard existed.
