An 18-year-old Howard County man has been charged in connection with a car crash that injured his mother in Mt. Airy Friday morning.
Maryland State Police said 51-year-old Susan Harbison of Mt. Airy was driving northbound on Maryland Route 27 in a blue Honda sedan near Braddock Road in Mt. Airy around 11:30 a.m. Her son, Devin Harbison of Elkridge, was in the front passenger seat.
Police believe the two were arguing when Devin grabbed the steering wheel and pulled it to the right, causing the car to abruptly run off the roadway. The vehicle crashed into the front yard of a home in the 4300 block of Ridge Road in Mt. Airy, damaging several items in the front yard including a basketball hoop, a tree and other debris stacked against the house.
Troopers and emergency crews responded to the scene. Susan was flown by State Police medevac to Shock Trauma. Devin was transported by ambulance to Carroll Hospital Center, according to police.
Devin has been charged with attempted second degree murder, first and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. He’s being held at Carroll County Central Booking.
