The Carroll County Sheriff's Office held a Critical Incident Preparedness seminar for church leaders on Wednesday following the deadly mass shooting at a church in Texas.
"It's a shame," said Sheriff Jim DeWees. "It's 2017 and we're talking about preparing church leaders for an active assault that might take place in their place of worship."
Leaders packed the Carroll County Public Safety Center in Westminster as officials demonstrated what to do in the case of an emergency inside a church.
Sheriff DeWees said his department is willing to visit any church in the county and go over specific safety techniques and procedures for their building.
