A Carroll County woman was forced to stay with friends Tuesday night after a fire destroyed her home.
"I was not home I was at work. And my daughter called and said that they were cooking," said fire victim, Angela Shiever.
"I don't know if they were trying to control it or get it off the stove but it exploded," Shiever said.
Damaging her Carroll County townhome in the 100 block of Carnival Drive. More grief for a family that's had its share recently.
"I have a 3-year-old grandson that we're raising because my son passed away 2 months ago today."
Shiever says her grandson, daughter, and her daughter's boyfriend was able to get out of the now charred home. Shes' thankful the child she raises as her own wasn't hurt.
"We're very blessed that he's safe and hopefully Ricky will be fine," Shiever told ABC2.
Ricky is her daughter's boyfriend who was flown for treatment for burns. It's not clear what started the fire, but the fire marshal was called to the scene. Shiever believes it was a cooking accident that destroyed the homes she's lived in for years.
"We've probably lost everything."
Firefighters from six departments responded. The cause of the fire right now appears to be accidental and caused by unattended cooking.
There is $100,000 worth of damage to the home and $25,000 worth of damage to what was inside the house.
