The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a Friday evening accident that left a woman dead.
At about 8 p.m., the Westminster City Police, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, along with Fire and EMS units, responded to Route 140, at Center Street, Westminster, in reference to a motor vehicle collision that involved a pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2017 Dodge pick-up truck, that was being driven by a 47-year-old man from Finksburg, was traveling East on Route 140, with a green light, passing Center Street when it hit a pedestrian.
On Saturday, the pedestrian, 43-year-old Valerie R. Groce, of Altoona, PA., who had been taken to Carroll Hospital Center with life threatening injuries, died as a result of those injuries.
The driver of the 2017 Dodge pick-up truck and his passengers were not injured.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and is continuing the investigation. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor for the driver. Anyone with information related to the collision should contact Corporal Miller at 410-386-5900.
