WESTMINSTER, Md. (WMAR) — Police are investigating a suspicious package that caused a Carroll County government building to evacuate Monday.

Sheriff's Office officials say someone in the Carroll County Commissioners office opened up the package and found a suspicious substance inside.

The building, located at 225 N. Center Street in Westminster was evacuated as a precaution, while Hazmat crews responded to evaluate the scene.

Tests revealed the substance wasn't harmful, and employees were eventually let back into the building. The package was sent to a lab for further testing.

Thus far, no one reported being injured or feeling sick.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office at 410-386-5900.
