For the second time in fewer than 10 days, a pedestrian was killed in a crash in Cecil County, Maryland State Police said.

A roughly 7:45 p.m. on Oct. 22, troopers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on a stretch of northbound Elkton Road, MD 279, just south of Blue Ball Road. The early investigation showed a black 2018 Nissan Rogue was heading north when it struck a 30-year-old pedestrian who was crossing the road outside a crosswalk and in low light, police said.

The pedestrian, Kati Casey or Elkton, was taken by Cecil County Emergency Services to Christiana Hospital in Delaware, where she died of her injuries.

The driver of the Nissan was identified as Dennis Duffy of Elkton. Police said it is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The crash closed MD 279 or about three hours as police investigated the scene. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Maryland State Police North East Barrack at 410-996-7800.

This fatal accident occurred a little more than a week after 31-year-old woman was struck and killed crossing Pulaski Highway in North East. Low light and crossing outside of a "crossing zone" were cited as factors in that crash as well.
