UPDATE: Investigators have recovered the trunk with bones inside on Ocean City beach.

Salsbury news stations report that divers located it early Wednesday afternoon after it washed away during Tuesday night's high tide.

Investigators say the container is not a suitcase but is an old wooden barrel that was in the water for a long time.

A bone that that was found inside turned out to be the shoulder blade of a deer.

According to Lt. Schreier of the Worcester County Sherriff’s office, a couple stumbled over a trunk in the water in West Ocean City at Homer Gudelsky Park on Tuesday. Inside they found personal objects like shoes and pottery as well as one or two bones.

Maryland State Police, Maryland Natural Resources Police and the Worcester County Sheriff's Office were on the beach investigating, and a dive team was trying to pull the trunk from the water in hopes of reserving anything that could be evidence.

The Sheriff's Office, Maryland State Police and Maryland Natural Resources Police are continuing to investigate.
