FALLSTON, Md. — If you're in the market to add a furry friend to your family, consider the Humane Society of Harford County.
The shelter is offering $25 adoption fees for cats and dogs from now until May 19 to help clear out the kennels, said Erin Long, the shelter's marketing coordinator.
Long said initially they were offering the discount adoption fee for dogs who had been at the shelter for 30 days or longer, but then more dogs started to come in and space filled up quickly.
Long said they also have a lot of adult cats looking for loving homes, and they're starting to see an uptick in kittens during what's known as "kitten season."
The Humane Society is an open admission shelter which means they not only take in animals from the public, but they must take in whatever Harford County Animal Control brings in, according to Long.
That means they must have kennels open for whatever comes through their doors.
The Humane Society of Harford County is open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
