One person died and four more were injured early Friday afternoon after a van crossed the median and hit two oncoming vehicles on I-95 in Howard County.
The victim who died, a man from Maryland, is not being identified at this time because his family has not yet been notified.
A passenger in his vehicle was injured and flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to Shock Trauma. He has also not been identified.
Others injured were Grace O. Hansen, 54, of Rockville, and her passenger, Jasmin J. Hansen, 20, of Stafford, Va., as well as Thomas E. Dombroski, 55, of Williamstown, N.J. All three were taken by ambulance to Howard County General Hospital for treatment.
State police said a Chevrolet van driven by the deceased was traveling southbound on I-95 at the Laurel rest area north of Route 216 when it traveled across the median and into oncoming traffic.
The van hit a Hyundai Sonata, driven by Grace Hansen, head-on and then collided with a tractor trailer driven by Dombroski.
An investigation continues.
