29-year-old man struck crossing highway in Howard County

SAVAGE, Md. — A 29-year-old man died after being struck by a car while trying to cross a highway in Howard County, Maryland State Police said.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Monday morning, troopers responded to I-95 South at Maryland Route 216, for the report of a body on the left shoulder of the road, police said. There, police met the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta involved in the accident.

Police said the pedestrian, Timonthy Lewis of Mount Rainer, attempted to cross the highway from the right shoulder to the left side of the roadway when he was struck by the Volkswagen. Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

The driver remained on the scene for troopers to arrived. Police are continuing to investigate and charges may be pending.
