A 4-year-old boy died after being injured in a three-car collision on MD-32 in Jessup Tuesday night.

Howard County Police said Kamsi Akabudike of Ellicott City was a passenger in one of three cars involved in the crash. He was pronounced dead at Howard County General Hospital as a result of his injuries.

At approximately 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Kamsi Akabudike was in a car seat riding with his mother, Ngozi Akabudike, 36, in a 2003 Honda CRV. His mother drove eastbound on MD-32 near Dorsey Run Road, when police believe she made a sudden stop and was hit from behind by a 2014 Jeep Wrangler driven by John A. Clark, 32, of Columbia.

The Jeep then sideswiped a 2002 Ford Explorer driven by Nicole Powell, 29, of Edgewater. Powell, and a 2-year-old child in her car, were both unharmed.

Ngozi Akabudike and Clark were transported to Howard County General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Four-year-old Kamsi Akabudike was taken to the same hospital, where he later died, police said.

MD-32 was closed at Route 1 until 1 a.m. Wednesday.

The investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed.
