A bar caught fire in North Laurel early Wednesday morning, causing traffic delays on Washington Boulevard.
Howard County Police said an officer on patrol in the area saw smoke coming from Sam & Elsie's bar in the 9900 block of Washington Boulevard. The officer radioed for the fire department to be dispatched and crews responded just after 3 a.m.
Upon arrival, crews found a small fire in the building’s bar area, and worked to extinguish it and ventilate the building.
No firefighters or civilians were injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The incident has reduced Washington Boulevard to one lane at Davis Avenue.

Sam and Elsie's will remain closed pending an inspection by the Howard County Health Department, police said.
