COLUMBIA, Md. — Businesses are slowly starting to reopen with new rules in different parts of Maryland.
Howard County is reopening some businesses under strict guidelines.
WMAR-2 News' Eddie Kadhim was at Kindred Hair and Skin Center to see how they are mitigating risk as much as possible ahead of reopening on Monday.
“Usually you sign in and immediately have a seat. Not only can you not sit in ever seat, we spread them out,” said Dr. Chesahna Kindred. “The idea is that when you walk in you’re able to go straight back without waiting in the lobby.”
Dr. Kindred has missed her clients.
Through telehealth, she and her team were able to guide them— but many need the equipment they have to continue treatment.
With the added stress that comes with COVID-19, she says skin issues and hair loss are bigger issues than ever.
“Anxiety is not just in the head. It absolutely translates to real heal effects because the stress and anxiety release inflammatory chemicals in the body, which just worsens everything.”
Starting Monday, current clients can start coming back under strict guidelines.
No more paperwork exchange at the desk everything is online.
So it’s straight to the exam room.
“You’re asked to wash your hands, my medical assistant will have you wash your hands right there at the sink.”
The handles of the sink are disinfected and the no touch laser machine is fired up.
“We use a laser to treat uncontrollable psoriasis. We also use the laser for acne and dark spots. Our specialty though is hair loss.”
When the clients are done, they leave, and the room is disinfected again before the next person comes in.
“I will have a hazmat suit, so will my medical assistant. We’ll have a face mask.”
They don’t plan on taking new clients while they catch up on the backlog of work their current clients need.
Adapting as they go and hoping it goes smoothly.
