The Howard County Public School System announced the passing of former Superintendent Dr. Sydney Cousins following his long battle with illness.
Cousins ran the school system from 2004 to 2012. Current Superintendent Dr. Michael Martirano released a statement about Cousins' death:
[Dr. Cousin's]calm and steady demeanor, deep compassion and quiet yet assured nature represented an anchor of stability to countless staff, students and parents. Dr. Cousin firmly believed that “every child can learn,” and he embodied inclusiveness and kindness to all. He immediately reached out to me upon my return to Howard County, and I will forever be grateful for his advice and support during those early days.
Dr. Cousin will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
