Glenwood Middle School students win Verizon app challenge

Posted

A team of students at Glenwood Middle School created an award winning app to connect teens with job opportunities.

The "Emploi" app won the best in Maryland entry for the fifth annual Verizon Innovative Learning App Challenge.

Maggie Yin, an 8th grader who worked on the app, said it connects teens with opportunities to earn money, while helping adults in their communities with chores around the house.

"We decided to make a communication forum between the two, so adults could post notifications and teens could look at job offers. Together, they would connect and get what they wanted out of our app," Yin said.

Yin and the rest of her team were excited to win the challenge. They were given a $5,000 check and tablets for their idea, which was selected from more than 1,800 entries nationwide.
