ELLICOTT CITY, Md. — A dog was found tied to a tree with its throat cut and now a man faces charges in the dog's death.
Howard County Police were called to the 8900 block of Town and Country Boulevard on December 30 for reports of blood in the area. Officers found a dead pit bull tied to a tree. It appeared the dog had struggled to free itself before it died.
Police found an apartment where the dog was being watched by friends of the owner. Witnesses identified Corey Jones, 26, of Windsor Mill as the suspect in the killing. They told police he'd been staying at the apartment.
Jones was found hiding behind a shower curtain in the bathtub.
He has been charged with one felony count of intentionally mutilating, torturing and cruelly killing an animal, and two misdemeanor counts of causing unnecessary suffering and pain.
He is being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center.
