Howard County police are investigating a serious motorcycle crash that occurred in Highland.
A Yamaha motorcycle was traveling westbound on Route 216 near Hall Shop Road at about 2:47 p.m. Sunday.
The motorcyclist was coming up on a red light, when he lost control and began traveling westbound in the eastbound lane.
The Yamaha collided with a Hyundai Santa Fe as a result of this.
Police are investigating the incident to determine why the operator lost control of the motorcycle.
The driver of the Hyundai, Daniel Hardnock, 43, was not injured.
The motorcyclist, Robert Kessler, 26, was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he is listed in critical condition.
Route 216 at that intersection is now open after being shut down for an hour and a half as a result of the accident.
