HOWARD COUNTY, Md. — Maryland State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash in which three men died Thursday afternoon in Howard County.

According to police, just before 3:25 p.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Waterloo Barrack and the Howard County Police Department responded to a 911 call for a single-vehicle crash in the center median on Interstate 95 North, south of Maryland Route 100 in Elkridge.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2005 Mazda 3 began driving aggressively before it overturned in the center median. The vehicle struck multiple trees before coming to a rest.

The driver, Robert William Nagel, 44, and the two passengers, Michael Louis Labonte Jr, 33, and Eric Severin, 43, all of Laurel, Maryland, were declared dead.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The left two lanes of I-95 North were closed for several hours after the crash.

According to a preliminary investigation, speed appears to have been a factor in the crash. However, the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
