Pedestrian hit and seriously injured in Costco parking lot

ELKRIDGE, Md. — Howard County Police are currently investigating a collision that left a pedestrian critically injured.

The collision, which happened at a little before 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Costco in the 6600 block of Marie Curie Drive, started when a 2010 Ram 1500 that was traveling in the parking lot stuck a pedestrian. The vehicle continued traveling in the parking lot before stopping.

The pedestrian, 31-year-old Chun Yuan Leon Cheng, of Jessup, was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and is currently in critical condition. The driver of the Ram, 45-year-old Joseph Zowd, also of Jessup, was transported to Howard County General Hospital for evaluation.

Police are unsure if Zowd suffered a medical emergency prior to hitting Cheng. The passenger that was also in the Ram was not injured.

This investigation is ongoing.
