Police say a bystander was shot following an altercation between two men which led to gunfire in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Md. — Howard County Police said they are offering a reward as they investigate a non-fatal shooting that happened outside of a Columbia store Saturday evening.

When officers arrived to the scene of a shooting at Sam’s Mart in the 5800 block of Stevens Forest Road, they found a bystander with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Investigators believe that there was an altercation between two men outside of the store. That's when one man pulled out a gun and began shooting at the other, but the intended target was not hit. The bullet struck a man who was leaving the store.

Police said they do not know the identity of either of the two men involved in the altercation.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a dark-colored shirt and light-colored pants. The victim, 21-year-old Kaylin Castle from Columbia, was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he is listed in fair condition .

Howard County Police are asking anyone with information to call 410-313-STOP or HCPDcrimetips@howardcountymd.gov. The department will pay up to $2,000 for information in this bystander shooting.
