A 16-year-old male has died after crashing early Sunday morning in Elkridge. Police identified him as Yash Mitul Shah, 16, of Pine Run Court in Ellicott City.
Howard County Police say just before 5 a.m., officers were called to a single-vehicle crash in the 5500 block of Landing Road. Investigators believe the 2014 Infinity QX60 SUV was traveling south on Landing Rd when the young driver lost control around a curve letting the vehicle travel off the road striking trees and a utility pole. The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 17-year-old male passenger was also in the car and taken to Howard County General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He has been identified by police as Manav Amvrish Trivedi, 17, of Hanover Road in Hanover.
Police are still investigating but believe speed was a “contributing factor” in the crash.
The 5500 block of Landing Road was closed early Sunday.
