Cecil County elementary school teacher killed in motorcycle crash in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Md. — A Cecil County elementary school teacher was killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday evening in Columbia.

It happened around 5:16 p.m. on the Route 175 westbound ramp at Route 29 north.

Police say the driver identified as 33-year-old Jamie Charles Zavala, lost control of his Yamaha motorcycle and struck a guardrail.

The impact of the crash threw Zavala and his passenger Kristen Renee Snyder, 26, from the motorcycle.

Snyder, a resident of Elkton died at the scene. On Sunday, Cecil County Public Schools posted on Facebook that she taught at Bay View Elementary School.

Zavala of Glen Burnie is listed in critical condition at Shock Trauma.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. The ramp from Route 175 west to Route 29 north was closed for approximately three hours.
