"Speechless" stars Minnie Driver as mom, Maya DiMeo, who will do anything for her family, including her eldest son with cerebral palsy.
JJ DiMeo is played by actor Micah Fowler, who, like his character, is living through the challenges of cerebral palsy. Micah uses both a wheelchair and walker. He hopes that viewers will get to know JJ as a normal person, looking beyond his physical and other limitations.
Micah said he recognizes that responsibility of representing the special needs community and hopes he can make his peers proud.
In the series premier, the DiMeo family moves to a horrible house so JJ can go to school with an aide who can give him a voice. However, no one in the family thinks its a good idea, including JJ who hates the voice he's given.
USA Today said it's "easily the best of the new network sitcoms."
"Speechless" stars Minnie Driver (About A Boy, Good Will Hunting), John Ross Bowie (Big Bang Theory) as Jimmy DiMeo, Mason Cook at Ray DiMeo, Micah Fowler as JJ DiMeo, Kyla Kennedy as Dylan DiMeo, and Cedric Yarbrough as Kenneth.
"Speechless" airs Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 8:30 p.m. on ABC2
