An armed robbery took a strange twist when the attacker forced the victim to swim across the Potomac River.
Police said the robbery happened at a scenic overlook on the George Washington Memorial Highway Thursday night. The robber took the victim’s wallet and cell phone and then forced the victim to swim across the Potomac River.
Once the victim reached the DC side of the river, police were called and a search began. Two suspects were detained and released because they could not be positively identified as the attackers.
Additionally, during the course of the search a United States Park Police officer was taken to a hospital with heat exhaustion. The officer was later released.
Anyone with information should call police at 202-610-8730.
